johanna mason literally said “fuck you” to president snow but he’s like “oh shit katniss done made herself a bird”
can we just appreciate how Katniss drew the beard on the Seneca Crane dummy
I just realized that Panem allows the brutal horrific murder of children on TV but they still censor the word ‘fuck’….
(spoiler-free for book readers)
(Yes, that happened. I gave THG 9/10.)
I’m so impressed with this movie. All the small problems of The Hunger Games are gone and this is a bigger, more powerful sequel that basically makes you scream for the two Mockingjay movies.
The acting was amazing. Jennifer Lawrence is the best, obviously. THG is obviously built around her and it works. She improved from the last movie and if it weren’t for it being a teen franchise she’d need a bigger shelf for her awards. The supporting cast that’s returning is just as good if not better than they were in the first movie, so there’s nothing to complain about there. Jena Malone and Sam Clafin are outstanding, and Jena surprised me a lot. Philip Seymour Hoffman was a perfect choice as well.
The production values of CF and higher than THG, and they put the money on the right things. I re-read Catching Fire yesterday, and it’s like they took it straight from the book.
The entire script is practically taken straight from the the book. Book fans have insane demands at times, but there’s nothing to complain about even if you try to find something.
Francis Lawrence is my new hero, basically. He kept and didn’t mess with everything that worked from the first movie, and kept the same feeling. But at the same time he improved what he could improve. He fixed the problems of the romance story from the first one which is important for Mockingjay. He didn’t just improve the romance, he increased all the emotions and used the bigger dangers of CF to improve the emotions. I think this shows the most during the interviews, which were perfect. It’s also gritter, which could be because of various different reasons but’s also important for Mockingjay.
Speaking of Mockingjay, this made me excited for it.
CF was better than THG, and seeing what Francis did with CF - the most boring book - I can’t wait to see what he does with Mockingjay.
To make a long story short, the cast is even better than I anticipated and this movie is basically everything I wanted The Hunger Games to be when it premièred last year. Seeing an adapted sequel being made even better than the first film makes me love movies even more than I already do.
